Before You Buy
At Project Watches, we believe that even a watch that has stopped working can still have something to offer. Whether you're a collector, hobbyist or experienced watchmaker, there's often enjoyment in discovering, repairing or restoring an old timepiece.
Before purchasing, however, there are a few things worth understanding.
Watches for Spares and Repairs
The watches offered here are primarily intended as restoration projects or sources of spare parts.
Some may not run at all. Others may run intermittently, have mechanical faults, missing components or other problems requiring attention.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, these watches should not be considered ready to wear.
Mechanical Condition
We do not routinely service, dismantle or carry out detailed mechanical diagnoses of the watches we sell.
Where possible, we may describe what we have observed — for example, whether a watch winds, ticks, starts or stops.
However, an observation is not a diagnosis. A watch that ticks may have other problems, and a watch that does not run may have faults that cannot be identified without further investigation.
There may also be additional issues that are not immediately apparent.
Restoration and Spare Parts
Not every watch can be repaired economically, and some may not be repairable at all.
Replacement parts for older watches can be difficult to find, and professional repairs may cost considerably more than the purchase price.
Some watches may ultimately be more useful as donors for spare parts than as restoration projects.
Photographs and Descriptions
Please examine the photographs and read each listing carefully before purchasing.
We aim to describe the watches accurately and disclose any significant faults we are aware of, but we cannot guarantee that every mechanical or cosmetic issue has been identified.
If you have a question about a particular watch, you're welcome to ask. We'll do our best to help with the information available.
A Final Thought
A watch that has reached the end of its working life for one person might be the beginning of an enjoyable project for someone else.
That's what Project Watches is all about — giving interesting timepieces another opportunity to be appreciated, repaired, restored or put to good use.
